Roblox safety settings for parents

First — link a parent account

Most of Roblox's parental features only unlock once a parent account is linked to the child's. You do not do this by logging into your child's account and changing settings.

1. Create a Roblox account in your own name. You need it for management even if you never play.
2. Start parent linking from your child's account settings and enter your email.
3. Complete the confirmation sent to your email.
4. Once linked, you can view and change their settings from your own account.

Spending limits — where most problems start

The most common complaint by far is charges. A child buys Robux repeatedly on a parent's card, and because it is many small amounts rather than one large one, it often goes unnoticed for a while.

• You can set a monthly spending limit. It applies to Robux and to individual game subscriptions.
• High-spend notifications are on by default: parents are alerted at $100, $250, and $500 of monthly spend.

To block card payments entirely, the payment method is a better lever than Roblox itself. Turning on purchase approval in your Apple or Google account means every purchase needs your confirmation.

Chat and friends

The 2026 change introduced age-based account types. Ages 5–8 have chat off by default; 9–15 unlocks gradually with age. Parents can adjust chat settings until the child turns 16.

• You can set who they are able to talk to.
• You can block or allow specific friends.
• Accounts under 16 have external social media links blocked.

Trade scams and account theft nearly always begin in chat. Narrowing who can talk to them filters out a large share on its own.

Blocking and allowing games

Games are filtered automatically by account type, but parents can additionally block specific games or allow ones that would otherwise be off-limits.

So if there is one game they really want that their account type excludes, you can approve just that game. It is not all-or-nothing.

Check the birth date is right

Linking a parent account lets you check and correct the birth date. Everything else is pointless if this is wrong, so start here.

Screen time

Parents can set daily time limits until the child turns 13. From 13 to 18 direct limits give way to visibility: you can see time spent and friend lists instead.

Pairing this with your device's own screen time controls is more effective. Roblox's setting covers Roblox; the device setting covers everything.

More important than any setting

Settings cover half of it. The other half is whether your child will tell you when something goes wrong. The main reason children stay quiet after being scammed is fear of being told off.

• Agree in advance: "if anyone ever asks for your password, tell me".
• Do not lead with anger when they say they lost an item. They will stop telling you.
• Make sure they know Roblox does not restore items lost in in-game trades.
